FreeU

ImageIt is an organisation supported by groups of people and collective movements that share the disgnosis about the exhaustion of the traditional model of the "universidty of market" and which has given itself the aim of re-create a university that  takes into account and participates of the production of free knowledgede that is is being produced in the world.

A node of collective and distributed intelligence that, unfstening from the limitations and ties that States and the Market give to the traditional university, can push forward in the reflection and systematization of experiences for the application of a knowledge that tends to the overcoming of the contemporary problems, with a special emhasis on those that affect the comunities that satisfy their economic, cultural and social needs in a precarious way.

Our diagnosis is that the great majority of the Universities, both private and public, due to their conception, strategy and methods of work, are tight to models and institutional practices and corporative compromises which transform them in inefficient instances to understand and participate of the new form of production of knowledge that is taking place in the world nowadays.

The dynamism and speed of the commons or procommon, related to the creation of knowledge, makes that the traditional university's dependence to corporations and states is an insurmountable barrier for the advance of knowledge of the public domain.

Besides, those corporative compromises, most of the times, just follow personal interests, generally related with the interests of the capitalist market and the agreements among groups of power that have materialised their alliances in private groups, under the shape of corporations or public instances, under the shape of national states.

The production of non-mercantile knowledge that million of peopleare doing today in the world, requiree autonomous, open and free spaces, in order to systematise the experiences and advance as fast as the same communities require that, implementing creatively new forms of production and transmnission of knowledge through neo-disciplinary research programmes, that is to say, that consider "objets" of study realised everyday and new methods of work that the development of technology offers us.

OpenU bets for a new social subject, a Hommo Noeticus, that is re-discover and  (re) build themselves from the diplay and development of a new relationship with knowledge. A relationship that fundamentally is installed in the value of creation as an  aesthetic/political attitude.

OpenU is a space available for communities and collective movementes that are part of a collective consciousness that promotes a libertarian society. The reflection and systematization of the knowledge that contribute is and will be forever of public domain and not available for the maintenance of the economy of the scarcity and of the  neccesity artificially created, that the model of commanding society promotes.

To keep this perspective as a strategic compromise, UOpen has elaborated a Social Contract  as  a guarantee that their precepts and principles are the firm decision of its founding community. Each active member of our University suscribe this Social Contract since the moment they accept to participate in any activity of the Open University.
